What to Expect - Children

Assessment
Assessments generally take 1 to 1½ hours. You and your child (if appropriate) will be asked questions including your current concerns. All areas of your child's physical development, gross motor skills, and previous medical or therapeutic interventions will be discussed, and a full physical assessment will be carried out specific to your child’s needs.

A lot of the assessment may be done through play, especially in the younger child so they don’t realise they are being ‘examined’. Many younger children are not keen to talk with unfamiliar adults so I have lots of tricks up my sleeve to break the ice but I also will gain lots of information from you to inform my assessment.

I will let you know the results of the assessment at the time and will write a summary report if this is requested (see fees section). This will detail your child's current strengths and needs and suggest activities which will help their support development. I will then make recommendations regarding the type and frequency of therapy which will most effectively help them.

Therapy
I am trained and experienced in providing evidence-based therapy. I aim to make the sessions fun and engaging for your child and will work towards realistic and functional goals. To make the most of your therapy sessions is helpful if an adult who will be able to replicate the activities during the week is present during the sessions. I am happy to provide some or all therapy sessions in nurseries/preschools. The frequency of sessions (weekly, every other week, etc.) will be agreed jointly- I will make suggestions based on what will be most effective but this can be adjusted to fit around your lifestyle and commitments.
